New Businesses Born at Startup Weekend

The first-ever Startup Weekend in Southeastern Washington expanded the area's entrepreneurial infrastructure while enabling new businesses to tap into local expertise. In September, 48 entrepreneurs came together in the Tri-Cities to develop business models and pitch eight ideas to a judging panel of regional business leaders. Among the top startup ideas were the Emergency Tag Alert safety device for finding your fire extinguisher in an emergency, the Sun Spirits vodka distillery powered by the sun and fueled by wine byproducts, and the Local Adventures mobile app for finding free things to do around you. Top startup ideas won packages for further development through training, consultation, and services from sponsors such as Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, Gonzaga Law School, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Washington State University Tri-Cities.
