Biography

Mark Engelhard is a chemist in PNNL's Energy Processes and Materials Division. Since 1980, Engelhard’s research has involved advancing and utilizing surface sensitive techniques, particularly X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), to study surface and interphase chemistry. He has worked as principal investigator and scientist on fundamental and applied research projects that involve collaborations with academic, government, and industrial partners. 

Based on this work and use of specially developed sample handling and processing capabilities associated with XPS systems, Engelhard has authored or co-authored 593 peer reviewed scientific publications. His Web of Science Hirsch index is 115 and his Google Scholar Hirsch index is 126.  Engelhard has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics starting in 2018 through 2023. He has authored or co-authored five book chapters and more than 15 technical reports, and has edited three special journal volumes for AVS Journals. Engelhard’s total sum of publication citations is over 48,500 (Web of Science) and over 61,500 (Google Scholar).
