Biography

Dr. Hunter Knox is an Earth scientist with the Energy and Environment Directorate at PNNL, where she works across the engineering field and geosciences to execute multi-disciplinary field scale research and development projects for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). She joined PNNL in June 2019, after a seven-year stint at Sandia National Laboratories.

Dr. Knox has led and provided technical expertise to several complex, multi-disciplinary field projects. This includes: the Enhanced Geothermal Systems Collaboration (EGS Collab), DOE’s Subsurface Science, Technology and Engineering R&D, and a variety of National Nuclear Security Administration-related meso and full-scale experiments.

Dr. Knox is known for her technical leadership and team development capabilities. Furthermore, she is a leader in subsurface characterization using seismic and other geophysical methods, meso-scale and field-scale testbed design and construction, geophysical/geomechanical experiment design, and large data integration.

Hunter is passionate, not only about technical excellence in subsurface investigations, but also in creating a safe, inclusive, and productive work environment. She does this through significant mentoring and outreach as is evident through her continued mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students and her participation in various organizations supporting STEM education, diversity, and inclusion (i.e. Sandia Women’s Action Network, Women in Geothermal (WING), DOE STEM Café).
