Recent contributions by PNNL researchers to the field of proteomics include
development of sophisticated new instruments and the most complete proteome
identification to date of a living organism—more than 1,900 proteins
in a radiation-resistant microbe. Scientists hope that understanding proteins
will lead to knowledge of how the body repairs itself, why the repairs don't
always work and eventually how to prevent health problems, such as breast
cancer and heart disease.
