Information Analytics
Most DHS operational components and state and local agencies face the grand challenge of integrating and analyzing overwhelming amounts of disparate, conflicting, and dynamic information from multiple, sometimes incompatible sources to identify and prevent emerging threats, protect the nation's borders, and respond to natural, accidental, and intentional disasters. PNNL is uniquely positioned to support these efforts because the Lab has:
- Internationally known staff who continue to lead in developing the concepts of visual analytics and information analysis
- Robust technologies being deployed to end users like law enforcement, emergency managers, and decision makers
- Regional relationships with end users to understand needs, and test and deploy technologies.
With capabilities like these, PNNL is providing the scientific and technical advances in the field, bringing in academic and industry partners, and transitioning technologies to operational components and end users. For more information, contact Dave Thurman at (206) 528-3221.
The National Visualization and Analytics Center (NVAC) at PNNL is developing the visual analytics capabilities to facilitate advanced analytical insight to help respond to natural, accidental, and intentional disasters. NVAC-developed technology has been successfully deployed at a number of homeland security agencies and client organizations, including Immigrations and Custom Enforcement, Automated Regional Justice Information System in San Diego, the local and regional law enforcement agencies.
