What is the Energy Smart Data Center Project Researching?

From one compute generation to the next, data centers are deploying ever-denser compute infrastructure that severely burdens capital and operational costs required to power and cool current facilities. Vendors today are already offering compute racks with power loads of 20 KW or more.

In light of increasing power density trends, the Energy Smart Data Center (ESDC) project intends to address the data center’s power generation, conversion, and distribution as well as cooling challenges by researching, deploying, and promoting adoption of novel energy efficient technologies.

The ESDC project is supported by the the U.S. Department of Energy-National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE-NNSA) Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program to demonstrate advanced engineering and energy efficient electronics and concepts related to high performance computing.
