Community Diversity and Functional Redundancy of Cellulytic Microbial Communities in Soil Aggregates

Contacts: Vanessa Bailey and Lee Ann McCue

Hypothesis: Aggregates will contain communities with different phylogenies, but with similar functionalities for fundamental processes such as cellulose degradation.

Two phases:

  1. Examine microbial community composition and activity at the micro/meso scale
  2. Identify cellulose-responsive microbial species and genes under varying conditions and assay enzymatic reactions required for C entry into soil.
