DOE Organizational Energy/Energy Efficiency Management Award

In 2001, Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee (the "656" Committee) presented an Energy Efficiency and Energy Management Award for Organizations to PNNL for recommissioning initiative that had saved $180,000 in expected energy costs. A major portion of the savings was from implementing low-cost actions such as adjusting temperatures and implementing night setbacks on temperatures and ventilation. The recommissioning initiative has continued, and the annual savings is $440,000. Additional information is at 2001 Federal Energy and Water Management Awards.  (announced 12/1/2002)

PNNL earns Golden Circles Award

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Facilities and Operations Directorate won the Golden Circles Award, the highest honor bestowed by the International Facilities Management Association. The Golden Circles Award is given to an organization whose facility management practices contribute to creating and managing productive work environments and support the objectives of the company business plan.The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Facilities and Operations Directorate won the Golden Circles Award, the highest honor bestowed by the International Facilities Management Association. The Golden Circles Award is given to an organization whose facility management practices contribute to creating and managing productive work environments and support the objectives of the company business plan. In the judges' view, PNNL demonstrates consistent and outstanding facility management strategies resulting in improved quality of services and facility effectiveness. The laboratory demonstrates how quality facility management has contributed to the overall profitability of the company and how the facility organization has communicated successfully with and gained recognition from senior management of the organization. Past winners include: Northern Virginia Facilities Group; the Estates Management Office, the Hong Kong University of Science and technology; the Washington State Department of Transportation and Allstate Insurance. The award was presented in October 2002 at IFMA's World Conference in Toronto, Canada. PNNL demonstrates consistent and outstanding facility management strategies resulting in improved quality of services and facility effectiveness. White House Closing the Circle Award for Environmental Preferability

PNNL receives White House Closing the Circle Award for Environmental Preferability for PNNL''s program "Reuse Systems at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory," from the Office of Federal Environmental Executive.  (announced 12/30/2001)

PNNL receives the Pollution Prevention Award for Sowing the Seeds of Change.

Pollution Prevention Award for Sowing the Seeds of Change: "Implementing a Site-Wide Change through Innovative, Cost-Effective, and Environmentally Sensitive Approaches," awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).  (announced 12/30/2001)

PNNL earns DOE''s "Gold Star" status for Voluntary Protection Program

PNNL was awarded the Voluntary Protection Program Gold Star. This is the Department of Energy''s highest safety recognition. "For the past few years, our staff and managers have worked hard to demonstrate that PNNL has a strong safety culture where staff and managers share a common belief that all employees are responsible for safety and health in the workplace," said Don Boyd, PNNL deputy laboratory director for Operations, in a message to the PNNL staff. "I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for your efforts to incorporate this important program into the workplace."
